  • THE 18th CENTURY HOT AIR BALLOON
The first ever machine built which could lift people up into the air was the hot-air balloon. It was constructed by the Montgolfier brothers and took off for the first time, with humans on board, in Paris 1783.

  • THE 19th CENTURY CINDERELLA CHARIOT
We all know the story of Cinderella, the glass slipper and the pumpkin chariot. But did you know the story can be traced back 2000 years ago and have hundreds of variants throughout the World? The most popular of course is the one we know from the Disney movies. It is based on the fairy tale of the same name by Charles Perrault, many have concluded that Cinderella is set in France and it takes place in the mid-to-late 1800s, as the characters don’t offer any clear clues as to when the story is set.

  • THE 19th CENTURY AIRSHIP
After the Montgolfier brothers launched their balloon in 1783, inventors began to design ways to propel and control lighter-than-air aircraft. Henri Giffard was the inventor of the world’s first passenger-carrying airship in 1852. The airship concept can be spotted in many science fiction works like Jules Verne's "Master of the World" novel for example, published in 1904.

  • THE 20th CENTURY GRAMOPHONE
The phonograph was invented in 1877 by Thomas Edison. 10 years later, Emil Berliner invented the gramophone, the mechanical predecessor to the electric record player. In the first decade of the 20th century, large horn gramophones were considered modern. At the Leipzig Spring Fair of 1906, the big flower horn was the sensation of the season in terms of gramophone design.
